This was a good experience ordering two cases of the plain smoked herring, which is our favorite. We like to have it on salads mostly. But it also bakes well briefly on a sheet pan with some tender veggies. We like all the herring varieties but this one--smoked with no other flavors-- is our favorite and hope Polar will continue to offer it. Our experience ordering directly was very good and the cans arrived very neatly in their protected boxes, not a leak or ding.

The herring fillet is firmer than most other canned fish, not overly cooked, has mild smoky flavor, not too salty. It has certain amount of fat, which makes it pretty tasty. I have eaten many cans and there are no bones. Can tab is not likely to break, unlike some other brands. It is a hassle when it breaks. Suggestion: use olive oil for the same fish. Price can go a little higher, not a problem.
